Supernal Enlivened
Curatorial Statement
Ancestral mask makers were once heavily attuned to the incorporeal. With the colonial quest for dominion over land and being, Deg Hit’an spirituality became no longer accessible or remembered within the immediate bloodlines. Through introspective exploration, my intention with these masks is to reestablish the connection between my ancestors and the unseen. My focus is to strengthen the bridge between the physical realm and the supernal. Every mask was carved with the purpose to send messages to the ancestors, mending or honoring spiritual beings, and discovering fragments of shamanistic practices.
